06/12/05: For all of you out there wondering, "What's up with Mind Candy?", here's an update:
First off, we want to congratulate our best friends, Potty Mouth Society for earning the Ernie Ball Battle of Bands local slot this year at Warped Tour 05! Big congrats to our homies, the Plankton Beat for getting Seattlepunk.net Band of the Month award for June as well!
The last few months have been a little quieter for the band as we locked ourselves in the practice room in preparation to record a new 10 to 12 song album. If all works out, it will be released by the end of summer in time for SEATTLE HEMPFEST!
Mind Candy recently opened for the Studio Seven "Ska Vs. Punk Fest" w/ the Los Kung Fu Monkeys, Destruction Made Simple, 10 Minutes Down, and Pistol Grip last January. Shortly after that we played at the 3rd annual LOCALCHAOSPALOOZA day 2 w/ Instant Winner, 10 Mintes Down, Hang, Lethal Rejection, No Means Yes, Pulverts and a ton of other great bands.
In April it was our 3rd year in a row playing Jays Birthday at the Funhouse! This time we shared the stage w/ 26000 Volts, Quick 66, the Hollowpoints, The Soviettes (Fat Wreckords), and The Methadones (A-F Records) featuring members of Screaching Weasel! It was a sold out show! What a good old fashioned drunken time it was!
In the last few months Mind Candy was lucky enough to play two shows with The Warsaw Poland Brothers, most recently at the Funhouses 2nd annual, PUNKLIFE on Memorial Day. Our good friends Lack of Respect, The Spazms, Sledgeback, Silent Extinction, 26000 Volts, Rat City Ruckus and Rain City Shwillers played with us at the PUNKLIFE fest as well.
Warsaw is a legendary So Cal ska/punk/irish/dub band originally for Arizona. They have survived 15 years as a band and through the years have shared the stage with No Doubt, The Vandals, Blink 182, Jack Johnson, 311, The Aquabats, Ozomatli, the English Beat, and our good friends The Toasters to name a few. Warsaw has had their music featured on MTVs Road Rules, Vans Triple Crown, and are a Jagermeister sponsored band. I just wanted to express how amazing it was to open for Warsaw but even cooler to become good friends over the last few months. Thanks for everybody including new fans and old that came out and saw us with Warsaw. Enough of the history lesson, you can check out more about the band at www.invisiblemass.com.
Moving on to the future, we are busy gearing up for a handful of summer shows and festivals. The great news is that most of our summer shows are ALL AGES! Remember when everyone bitched about not being able to see enough good all ages punk shows, well never fear cause Mind Candy is here to wipe away your summertime blues. Next weekend on Sat June 18th-19th you can see us at the Fremont Fair on the Downtown YMCA stage w/ our friends Potty Mouth Society, Lethal Rejection, Number One Dads, Bad Otis, Contra, The Recliners, Snitches Get Stitches, Natalie Wouldnt and many more. Mind Candy goes on Sat 6/18 at 7pm, and make sure to check out our show calendar for the full Fremont Fair schedule so you can go support your other favorite local bands!
Next up we play a celebration of Gabe and Gregs birthday on Sat June 25th at one of our favorites, The Brickhouse (on golden gardens beach) ALL AGES w/ Contra, Shift Man Shift, Number One Dads, Rat City Ruckus and The Plankton Beat. Show up early, BBQ and getting drunk on the beach starts at 3pm, bands at 5pm!!!
Just in, Mind Candy got added on the Wed June 29th show at the El Corazon w/ The Plankton Beat, Agent Apathy, Pin Pon Dash, and The Stackers (punk/ska form NYC)! Did I mention this show is ALL AGES too and Bar with ID for all you grown ups. Make sure you come out for the Japanese punk rockers, the Stackers from New York! Then we move on to play day 1 of Eskavaganza Ska/ Punk/ Reggae Fest on Friday July 1st ALL AGES/ Bar with ID at Studio Seven w/ Number One Dads, Strike One, Daggermouth (Vancouver, BC), Natalie Wouldnt, The Recliners and many more. A few weeks later we play Lethal Rejections CD release Friday July 15th w/ Potty Mouth and Contra ALL AGES at Ground Zero.
Geez, this is long, we should really do these newsletter things more often so it doesnt become a novel. Anyways, the last and major update in the Mind Candy world is that we just got confirmed for SEATTLE HEMPFEST! Well be playing day 2, Sunday Aug 21st at 5pm, more details to come.
